Throughout 2008
4 Japanese institutions—the Building Research Institute (BRI), National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies and Mie University—are conducting a research project on Disaster Mitigation in Earthquake Prone Areas in Asia, collaborating with prestigious research institutions in countries at high risk such as Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan and Turkey.
Since the project was launched in 2006, the GDLN/TDLC has provided the platform to strengthen this network across borders, enabling experts to share their knowledge and provide input on the Project. Workshops and seminars have been designed to facilitate general discussion among all participants as well as more focused exchanges on specific needs in each country. Videoconference has proved particularly valuable in presentations using visuals, to share information on appropriate construction methods, for example.
