New Direction on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Public Private Partnerships amidst Global Crises

The Japanese private sector has been at the forefront in establishing quality environmental management systems and CSR reporting. This seminar provided an opportunity to promote dialogue to enhance ethical and sustainable business practices in developing countries by connecting experts at the TDLC with audiences in 7 countries.

Speakers at the seminar, including Mr. Sanjay Pradhan, Vice President, WBI and Mr. Toshinori Doi, Director, Development Institutes Division, International Bureau, Ministry of Finance of Japan, provided context and overview of essential issues to build “inclusive and sustainable business practice” to enhance business competitiveness of private corporations and at the same time, contributed to the realization of sustainable growth of developing countries.

The panelists, including Mr. Yuho Hayakawa, JICA (Tokyo) and Mr. Stephan Frost, Director of CSR Asia (Hong Kong, China) and Mr. Djordjija Petkoski, WBI (panel facilitator) explored the topic in further depth including how it was now expected that the public and private sector would join forces to take more active role in promoting and implementing “South-South learning” in order to strengthen sustainable business practices in emerging markets. And in doing so, an effective public private partnership would be key.

It was conducted as a pre-launch of the upcoming CSR Asia program which will be the first joint leaning program by WBI, TDLC, and AIM (Asian Institute of Management – one of the local DLCs in the region.)
