September 20th, 2005

“The Second International Videoconference on Medical and Dental Education between Mongolia and Aichi” was held on September 20, 2005 connecting the TDLC, Aichigakuin University and the World Bank Office in Mongolia. Co-organized by the Japanese Cleft Palate Foundation (JCPF) and Aichigakuin University, Aichi Medical University, Nagoya City University, Nagoya University and Fujita Health University, about 100 participants including faculty from the Health Science University of Mongolia shared information on improving the condition of medical care in Mongolia.
Aichi Gakuin University President Tadataka Koide, Aichi Prefecture Governor Masaaki Kanda, Mr.Robert Hagan, WHO Representative in Mongolia, Mr.Tatsuo Toda, Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia, Health Science University of Mongolia President Tserenkhuu Lkhagvasuren, and Ambassador Soukthavone Keola of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Japan also participated in the conference. Presentations were given on studies regarding the genetic differences between Mongolian and Japanese people, dental care in Mongolia and preparing vaccines for Hepatitis B and C.
Established in 1992, the JCPF disseminates information on oral diseases and provides support to patients with cleft lip and palate. JCPF Director Nagato Natsume, a professor at Aichigakuin Unversity, taught Vietnamese students in Japan and started providing medical equipment and training to Vietnam as well as other Asian countries such as Mongolia. His efforts to exchange information on the latest developments in medicine with counterparts in developing countries won wide support from other universities involved in medical and dental education. This led to the first international conference between Japan and Mongolia in August 2004.
The JCPF and the TDLC signed a partnership agreement on September 15, 2005. The JCPF hopes to develop medical education programs for developing countries with the TDLC, and plans to hold an international video conference on medical and dental cooperation in February 2006 connecting Japan and Laos.
