On November 25, 2009, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Tokyo Development Learning Center will hold a joint public seminar by video conference on the social economy in Africa. Tokyo and Addis Ababa will be connected through TDLC’s video network.

ILO Deputy Regional Director for Africa Jürgen Schwettmann will report from Addis Ababa on ILO’s efforts to promote and expand the social economy in Africa, as well as talk about the outcomes from an international conference held in Johannesburg this past October; “the Social Economy – Africa’s Response to the Global Crisis.” Judith van Doorn, ILO Social Finance Advisor for Africa, will also report from Addis Ababa on “Microfinance for Decent Work in Africa”. Various aspects of the social economy in Africa, as well as in Asia and Japan, will be the topics of a panel discussion to follow, led by Japanese experts in Tokyo.
