Asian Productivity Organization Holds Multi-Country Study Mission on Media and Productivity

The Asian Productivity Organization used the GDLN to enable its new Secretary-General Mr. Shigeo Takenaka to address participants from more than a dozen member countries at the Multi-Country Study Mission on Media and Productivity held in Bangkok. This was Mr. Takenaka's first address to APO particpants. His remarks were delivered from the Tokyo Distance Learning Center.

The objective of the Study Mission was to acquaint the mass media in APO member countries with the concept and importance of productivity to socio-economic development. The mission consisted of lectures and presentations, extensive field visits, the GDLN videoconferencing session, and culminated in attendance at the 9th Productivity and Quality Forum held in Hanoi from September 22-24.

Following Mr. Takenaka's speech, Yukio Yoshimura, Vice President and Special Representative, Japan, delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of the World Bank. Ryu Fukui, TDLC's Partnership and Programs Manager, then discussed the collaborative partnership between the GDLN and APO.

Mr. Yoshihiko Ohnishi, APO Consultant, delivered a presentation on the productivity movement in which he explained the prerequisites for accelerating the pace of national development based on a changing concept of productivity, outlined APO's core competencies, and examined challenges to the future of the productivity movement.
