Improving Procurement and Financial Management in EU Accession Countries Through GDLN

Over a period of six months, more than one hundred accountants and auditors in eight Eastern European countries are using GDLN to work together and prepare themselves for joining the European Union on May 1, 2004.

Belonging to ministries of finance, auditing bodies, central banks, and security market regulators, participants in the GDLN Accounting and Training Program (January-June 2004) are sharing knowledge with each other and with World Bank experts on how to improve their countries' procurement and financial management systems. To be able to address key priorities in their countries, participants are learning from each others' work experiences and hearing from experts about the most current international debates on accounting and auditing regulation reforms.

The training course is a joint initiative of the World Bank's GDLN team in Europe and Central Asia, the Bank's Europe and Central Asia Operations Policy and Services (ECSPS) unit, and the Bank's Private and Financial Sector Development unit for Europe and Central Asia (ECSPF).
