The Power Industry: Challenges in Facing Privatization

To enable discussion of the issues and challenges related to power industry privatization, the Asian Institute of Management organized a seminar via the GDLN. The seminar included participants from Philippines, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Japan.

In Tokyo, participants attended from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; the Japan Bank for International Cooperation; the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency; Mitsubishi Research Institute; and the World Bank TDLC.

The seminar focused on the provision of funds to the power sector by financial institutions. Government representatives presented their reactions to proposals by financial institutions, and participants were able to gain an international perspective on the challenges faced by the sector.
