World Bank President Hosts Global Dialogue With Civil Society Organizations Via GDLN

Participants at the TDLC. The event was facilitated by Tom C. Tsui, Deputy Special Representative, Japan, and Koichi Omori, Communications Officer.
World Bank President James D. Wolfensohn hosted a global dialogue with representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) via the Global Development Learning Network ahead of the Bank's Annual Meetings. Representatives from more than 30 organizations from Brazil, Egypt, Nigeria, Georgia, Japan, and The Netherlands took part in the conference.
The Bank has held similar discussions for the last several years, each time before its regular Spring and Annual Meetings, and they have proved to be useful opportunities for substantive dialogue with groups outside Washington. The dialogues provide a valuable opportunity for the president to interact and share views with CSO representatives from a number of developing countries, Europe, and Japan.
The conferences also provide a chance for the Bank to gain feedback and insight on how it can improve the quality of dialogue and engagement between itself and civil society. During the 90-minute conference, Mr. Wolfensohn fielded a wide range of questions on key regional developmental issues and Bank policy.
