今日のインフレ：　グローバルな背景とローカルな解決策

Inflation is climbing to uncomfortable levels in East Asian countries due most immediately to high fuel and food prices.  At the same time, money and credit growth are difficult to contain, owing to substantial capital inflows.

This inflationary experience is new and traumatizing for current economic managers, who are in urgent need of information to formulate a response: How can available management tools be deployed to address today’s inflation? What economic interventions can be used in a complementary manner to mitigate adverse effects on the welfare of low income and other specific groups?

These and other topical questions will be examined in “Today’s Inflation:  Global Context and Local Solutions”, the first in a series of distance learning seminars focusing on Economic Management offered by the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) Asia Pacific. Organized with the support of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the 3-hour seminar will feature: (i) the global and regional context of the current inflation situation and related developments; (ii) causes, impacts and policies to address inflation; and (iii) case study, featuring both the successful and unsuccessful experiences of countries in other regions.

A total of 11 countries will be connecting via GDLN videoconference in two groups, bringing together decision makers from the region including central bankers and ministry of finance officials to ensure an informative discussion.
